Monthly Music: may 18

I’m back bitches.

May was definitely a month where I cut myself some slack when it came to blogging. I felt a little worn out and honestly just really wanted to take some time to myself. That is why this playlist is probably the shortest I have ever created with just over 40 accumulated songs – but not to worry, there are still some groovy songs in the mix. I got u. I can’t exactly pin down the exact music genre(s) I was going for in May. This playlist is all over the place but you know what, let’s for once embrace the chaos, kids!

By clicking on the song titles in blue you will be redirected to the YouTube video of the given song. All songs are available on Spotify, my whole playlist will be embedded at the end of this post.

valence-2

This is America – Childish Gambino

If you haven’t heard of this song by now, you might as well live on the moon. Everything Donald Glover aka Childish Gambino does is magic in my eyes. I’m sad, yet excited for his last album ever. This is America is social criticism at its finest – the song and the video are one and include so many cultural references, you’ll have to watch the video a few times before you decipher all of them.

Nothing Lasts – Bedroom

This song is definitely an all-time favourite of mine. I rediscovered it when I was browsing through my old playlists and instantly fell in love all over again. Bedroom makes some amazing music, so if you don’t know their songs check them out!

Disciples – Tame Impala

I know, I know. In each Monthly Music edition I throw in a Tame Impala song. But hey, can you really blame me? I will say this a thousand times if I have to – TAME IMPALA IS INCREDIBLE. Everything Kevin does is MAGIC. There’s really no other way to put it. His sound is so unique and everything he does always captures that exact essence only his music can produce.

When I Look Back – Lev Snowe

You can tell this song is going to be good even before the lyrics start. This is the first Lev Snowe song I ever heard but DAMN THIS IS SO GOOD.

Put Your Head On My Shoulder – Paul Anka, Joe Sherman

I kind of want this to be my wedding song.

ALBUMS:

KOD – J.Cole

KOD (Kids on Drugs or Kill Our Demons) is J. Cole’s latest Album. Personally, I enjoyed the second half of the album more than the first, although I must say that Cole really did a great job at sticking with the theme of his album – different types of addictions. I am proud to call myself a J.Cole fan, I think he is one of the best rappers of our generation. And to me, this Album was only a confirmation of that.

How to: Friend, Love, Freefall – Rainbow Kitten Surprise

I have been including songs from this Rainbow Kitten Surprise album in the last few Monthly Music editions. I first came across Rainbow Kitten Surprise sometime last year and was instantly amazed at their talent and the fact that I had never heard of them before. I would LOVE to see them live one day!

  1. Firstly, nice entrance. “I’m back bitches” makes for suave and cool start off for a monthly music.

Secondly, THE GORILLAZ ARE BACK, THE GORILLAZ ARE BACK!

Thirdly, Panic! At The Discos new album!

I haven’t really heard any of these songs except ‘This Is America’ but will check em out.

    1. Why thank you😂

And I KNOW I KNOW! I didn’t realise you were a fan of the Gorillaz! I had a chance to see them live a few months back but I was sick so I couldn’t make it 😦

I haven’t listened to it yet but I’m planning to! There are so many album releases at the moment, it’s hard to keep up lol.

  2. I’m glad you’ve been giving yourself a break girly! Too much stress is no good for the soul after all 🙂 Loved your playlist (as always) and totally agree with you that I am bloody heartbroken this is childish gambino’s last album. He is honestly A M A Z I N G and I’m not ready for him to stop making music 😥 xxxx

    1. There there! I think there’s a lot to be said about taking some time for yourself to recharge.

And thank you girly, I’m glad you enjoyed it! I know right, I am so so sad about his last album *cries* but at the same time I’m really excited to see what he’ll bring to the table. Donald has always risen the bars when it comes to his music do I’m sure whatever he will bring us will be EPIC. xxxx

  3. Looove this, you have such great taste as always. Gambino & J Cole – yes yes yes. Put Your Head On My Shoulder is SUCH a beautiful song, there’s a remix that’s been going around on YT for quite a while now (you’ve probably heard it) and I love that one too .xx
