melancholia mood / playlist collab with YouShouldHear

Well hello there beautiful people, how’s life treating you these days?

I know life tends to come with a ton of ups and downs, high and lows and a lot of us may have experienced an emotion that normally sneaks in with the lows: melancholia. To me, melancholia is even worse than sadness – it’s a state that I sometimes find myself for a few days in and can’t seem to get out of. It’s that kind of sadness that physically hurts, the kind that takes so much more than tears to get over.

Over the years, I have come to discover a bunch of songs that capture that feeling beautifully for me. Some of them more well-known, some not. Priya from YouShouldHear (one of the best music-related blogs on WordPress that I sincerely recommend you visit) and I came up with the idea to each present 10 songs that capture that haunting feeling of melancholia. I will present my selection in this post and if you feel like it after, you can head over to Priya’s blog to listen to her accumulation of melancholic songs.

I’ll leave the link to her half of this blog post at the end of this post, as well as an embedded Spotify playlist of all of our selected songs. Priya and I also wanted to create some cool visuals – I have done these in the past, as I always enjoy making them and they also offer all of you the chance to screenshot it and listen to the playlist later if you wish.

I hope you enjoy this playlist we put together for you! What songs do you know that reflect that feeling of melancholia? Let us know! Also, for all of you that want to contribute to this playlist, I made it collaborative; So if you feel like a song is missing, you can add to the playlist too!

    1. Frank Ocean always does it for me. Such a unique and hard-working artist, his songs just take away my breath everytime! There’s something about the raw emotion he manages to get across that almost always brings me to tears when I hear his music. Thanks! 🙂

  2. Oh god, I hate the feeling of melancholy; it’s just so . . . disruptive to your everyday life. Like a big thick cloud weighing you down. AND THERE’S NO WAY TO OVERCOME IT. It’s not usually even triggered, it’s like a mood. Ugh. That said, I LOVED this post. A. two of my favourite bloggers in one collab? I am here for it. B. The song choices were absolutely fab! xxx
