Monthly Music: april 19

Hello beautiful humans,

as tradition on this blog dictates, I come to you today to share my favourite songs of April with you. I do this with such an enthusiasm and love for all of the songs in this month’s playlist, as it combines both the old and new, sometimes both at the same time.

You cannot believe how thrilled I was when some of my favourite bands such as Tame Impala and Cage The Elephant, dropped albums after years of no new music. I.WAS.PUMPED. In fact, I still am.

What are some songs you have been LOVING recently? (You know me, always on the lookout for new songs to add to next month’s playlist)

*As always, the song titles in blue will redirect you to the YouTube video of the given song. All songs are available on Spotify.

Night Running by Cage The Elephant

Quite different from their usual music style, Cage The Elephant’s Night Running had me at the first verse. As a fan of CTE for many years now, I was excited for their new album to drop and was not disappointed, though I was surprised to see (or rather hear) that they had somewhat lost that angry, rebellious sound I first fell in love with at 15 years old. Their new album drifts a little more into the pop-genre, but doesn’t loose its edge.

Night Running in particular offers a semi-reggae sound (thanks to their feature Beck) like in no other song of theirs, but it works remarkably well and produces a unique and catchy tune.

Lovers Rock by TV Girl

I found this song through one of my favourite YouTube music channels ever – i’m cyborg but that’s ok. What the person behind the channel does is art, there’s no other way to put it. It’s SO well done. They combine films, both old and new, with music and make the music a visual experience.

To the song itself – I love the hopeless romantic feelings this song emits. When I listen to it, I am reminded of a care-free time in my life, a time of pure joy and recklessness. Lovers Rock paints the perfect picture of what it means to be young and in love.

Pink + White by Frank Ocean

What.a.beautiful.song. I keep coming back to it. When I listen to it, I feel like I am floating in a space, neither happy or sad, just drifting in this beautiful void, contemplating my life so far, thinking back to pivotal moments. And can you believe Beyonce is featured in this track?!

Pink+White will forever be one of my favourite songs by Frank, definitely my favourite one from the blond album. I don’t know what we did to be blessed with his music but I am all here for everything he creates.

Tomorrow Never Knows by The Beatles

First of all – HOW was this song released in 1966?! It is years ahead of its time, it’s like The Beatles were from the future (the whole album is BRILLIANT, it might be my favourite one). To call Tomorrow Never Knows a masterpiece would still not be enough and yet it is often overlooked. What people seem to forget is just how many genres The Beatles managed to cover.

Tomorrow Never Knows is definitely a piece of psychedelic art and offers such a diverse range of sound that it blows my mind every single time. And now I beg you to “Lay down all thought, surrender to the void…”
