Music is a source of calm for me. So in this very chaotic and stressful month, it has helped me cope more than ever.
Hello and welcome back to a new post 🙂
November has been a very chaotic month – school (as always) has brought challenges and stress, but I’m trying to be as active as possible on my two blogs. I quite like the format ‘Monthly Music’ so I decided to stick with it for now. It’s simple, easy and gives me the opportunity to share my music with you! After my last monthly music post one reader sent me the link to their Spotify Playlist which I really enjoyed, so thank you! I have listened to quite a few songs this month and discovered even more, so without further ado, let’s jump into the list of my favourite songs.
PICKS OF THE MONTH:
If you listen to a few of the songs, you will notice that there’s no distinct genre I listen to. There’s a little bit of everything and this month, I stepped out of my “musical comfort zone” and found a lot of great songs!
FAVOURITE ARTIST PICK OF THE MONTH:
Elliott Smith is always a staple in my monthly playlists, he’s just an artist I never get tired of listening to. All of his songs are great but I particularly loved “Kings Crossing” this month. Probably my favourite song of all times by him is “Between The Bars”, as mentioned in my All-time favourites playlist post.
ABSOLUTE MONTHLY FAVOURITE PICK OF THE MONTH:
My absolute favourite this month, Foreplay by Jalen Santoy, is a song that I could listen to every time of the day. It’s groovy (sorry for the old school description) and has a really catchy tune. Definitely give it a listen if you don’t know it already! It’s more in the Hip Hop genre, so you do have to be a fan to appreciate it.
MOODY MUSIC PICK OF THE MONTH:
Fourth of July by Sufjan Stevens is another gem I discovered and absolutely love. It’s moody, thoughtful and perfect for long, philosophical car rides. Definitely a little depressing with the “we’re all going to die” line, but for days you feel a little sad it’s a great song to listen to. Gets me emotional every time.
After “Fourth of July”, I usually opt for something that has a more positive message but is still in a slightly slower pace. “It’s a Wonderful Life” is a staple piece in my playlist. It has this vintage feel to it, something that I have come to love and appreciate. A simple, melodic tune, a piano and a lovely voice.
TOO GOOD NOT TO MENTION PICKS OF THE MONTH:
FAVOURITE BAND OF THE MONTH:
Alt-j is an obsession of mine that first started when I heard their AMAZING song “Breezeblocks”. This month, I was in the mood for some alt-j again, so I explored some of their other songs and was extremely impressed. They have this grungy edge to them, something that I always look for in songs.
ROCK PICK OF THE MONTH:
Tame Impala is also another favourite of mine and each month, one (or more) songs of their’s end up being in my playlist. Their music also has a slight edge to it, though it does have a more “rocky” vibe. In November, I listened to their song “Elephant”. Side note: great for dancing around in your pyjamas.
OLD BUT GOLD PICKS OF THE MONTH:
BEST VOICE OF THE MONTH:
Listen to this song! Her voice is heavenly.
RANDOM PICK OF THE MONTH:
For this category I decided to go with these 4 songs by Kendrick Lamar. I thought I didn’t like his music, but I guess things change. These untitled songs are extremely interesting and I listened to them a lot while doing my homework. They won’t be everyone’s cup of tea, but a year ago, I would have shaken my head at the thought of Kendrick Lamar’s songs.
