The first month of 2017 is officially done which means it’s time for another Monthly Music post! I feel like tuning off the news and just relaxing with my favourite tracks was exactly what I needed in this very very eventful month.
PICKS OF THE MONTH:
ABSOLUTE MONTHLY FAVOURITE PICK OF THE MONTH:
How didn’t I know this song existed? Gutter Girl by Hot Flash Heat Wave was hands down my
most listened to song in January. I listened to this track on repeat, I told all of my friends about it and got them hooked too. I was singing this at every time of the day, probably even in my sleep. I think that I even introduced my neighbours to the song as I blasted it through my whole house countless times. Needless to say, I pretty much fucking love this song to death. It’s fresh, fun and just awesome.
MOVIE MUSIC PICKS OF THE MONTH:
This month I saw the highly praised La La Land and I balled my eyes out. It deserves the hype it’s been getting since award season started. The visuals are already truly masterful, in combination with the music the whole thing is a Masterpiece. The ending of the movie is what left me convinced that this is one of those movies; the movies you’ll never get out of your head again. Such a powerful and poetic ending. City Of Stars and Mia & Sebastian’s Theme are my two absolute favourite tracks. The perfect songs for writing in your diary, making some art or to help you fall asleep. FAVOURITE ARTIST PICK OF THE MONTH:
I specifically really binge-listened to his 2016 album Blonde and I couldn’t stop. I find it incredible that Frank Ocean didn’t give us the typical I-am-famous album. Through all of his deserved rising fame and recognition he brought us something one of a kind: Himself. The album is raw, it shows emotions at their truest form. My favourites include White Ferrari and Pink + White.
TOO GOOD NOT TO MENTION PICKS OF THE MONTH:
HIP HOP PICK OF THE MONTH:
It’s no secret that I am addicted to Chance The Rapper. So when I found this song, a song with James Blake, another artist I have come to love, I was stoked. I still can’t get over the fact that all this time, they had a colla and I just didn’t know about it! HOW?
RANDOM PICK OF THE MONTH:
Okay I confess: I didn’t actually choose this song randomly. I just had to give it its own place, somewhere where I could rave about it. This has become one of my all-time favourite songs. Talk about an ear worm!
FAVOURITE BAND PICK OF THE MONTH:
I can’t deal with so much great music. It’s like I get sucked into a vacuum and never fully get out. The Internet is one of those bands that give me life. When I’m feeling low on energy, I just naturally gravitate towards their music. This months go-to: Special Affair.
I DON’T KNOW WHAT TO NAME THIS CATEGORY PICK OF THE MONTH:
BEST VOICE OF THE MONTH:
Okay so if I could (which I technically can) I would also choose Frank Ocean for this category. But, seeing as I don’t want to repeat myself too often, I picked three artists, who all have very unique voices. James Blake I already mentioned, but I really like his song Limit To Your Love, Elliot Moss in his single Slip and Emmit Fenn gives an impressive performance in Painting Greys.

Future projects:
I would like to quickly tell you about a Valentine’s Day project I have coming up on my second blog, RecapWizard. Last year, I did a series called Couples Counselling where I took some of my favourite on screen couples and gave some some advice regarding their (future) relationship. I got some amazing feedback on my three-part series last year, so I decided to make it an annual thing! I loved creating a whole counselling session and giving my fan girlish advice and a lot of you guys seemed to enjoy those posts too.
I wanted to take this opportunity and thank those who gave wonderful feedback last year and a few die-hard Grimm fans on Twitter who decided to share one of my Nadalind (GO NADALIND!) posts with their followers. I appreciate being treated as part of the community and the response I got back in 2016 was truly amazing. I love talking to so many of you, so please don’t be shy!
