The Astrology Archive – Taurus ♉︎

Welcome back to the fourth installment of The Astrology Archive!

With my own star sign being Taurus, I was patiently looking forward to doing some research into my star sign, where it comes from and what it means. Now that it’s time*, let’s dive in, shall we?

*We are technically past the Taurus timeframe because your girl got super busy and had to put uni at a higher priority for some time – but now we’re back and more excited than ever! (hope you are too)

But for those of you that are new to this series, here’s a quick overview of what to expect:

WHAT IS THE ASTROLOGY ARCHIVE?

The Astrology Archive is a collaborative series by the wonderful Chloe and I and is centred around the different astrological signs. Each month, Chloe and I will be taking turns in going in depth about the individual star signs, their meaning and more.

HISTORY & MYTHOLOGY OF TAURUS

Taurus, which means bull in Latin, is the second astrological sign in the zodiac and is symbolized by a bull (♉︎). It is one of the oldest documented constellations, dating back to the early Bronze Age.

Taurus was often listed as the first sign by the Babylonians and the early Hebrews, as it was the constellation through which the sun rose on the vernal equinox. In those times, Taurus was referred to as “The Great Bull Of Heaven” and “The Bull In Front”.

The ancient Egyptians viewed Taurus as a sacred or “heavenly” bull, believing it stood for the renewal of life in spring. In Greek mythology, Taurus has strong connections to the god Zeus, who is said to have transformed himself into a majestic white bull in order to kidnap the Phoenician princess Europa. Other myths mention the bull as Zeus’ mistress or as the Cretan Bull.

Taurus also held a strong meaning for the Druids, which were part of ancient Celtic cultures. The Druids worshipped Taurus and even had a Taurus religious festival which was held when the sun passed through the constellation.

RELATIONSHIPS

Known as loyal companions, Taureans can be viewed as “partners for life”. They take friendships seriously and value it at the highest level, often making friends for life. What can present a challenge at first is getting to know a Taurean. They can be very careful when it comes to their inner circle and generally need time to warm up to people.

As Taurus is ruled by Venus, Taureans are known to be very sensual beings and very connected to their bodies. Taureans generally need to be impressed or shown that you can be trusted – trust doesn’t come easily to them, so they might even come across as a little standoffish at first. They search for genuine connections, both with friends and lovers and place intimacy and authenticity at the highest level. They are all about having deep conversations rather than lighthearted smalltalk.

Above everything, Taureans value home, stability and family. They will try to nurture their relationships with the people around them, even in hard times.

    1. oooohhh, so you’ll literally be the last star sign we’re covering! But hang on in there 😉 In a way, I think all star signs have at least some similarities, that’s why some compliment each other so well; and Capricorn is one of the most compatible signs for Taurus, so that’s probably why you feel somewhat drawn to typical Taurus traits xx

    1. I’m so glad to hear that! That’s such a good question. I believe a lot of the characteristics ring true for me. For instance, I am really dedicated and therefore also a little stubborn at times. And in regard to relationships, I’d say it’s spot on. I need time to warm up to people and have to know them for a long time until I completely trust them (and I have also been told before that I seem a little standoffish at first). So all in all, I’d say it’s pretty accurate xx

  2. Bit late to the party here…only just starting up my own blog, but I LOVED THIS. Being a Taurus myself, I’m usually not one to believe deeply in astrology, but actually I really see many of these qualities in myself. Thank you for posting this! X
