WELCOME TO STICKY SITUATION (blog relaunch)

Dear friends of the Internet,

this may be one of the most exciting posts I have pressed ‘publish’ on this year. Not only am I revealing the new blog name / redesign I have been teasing for over a year now, but also marking the start of a new blogging chapter. And now to the big reveal…

STICKY SITUATION embraces the particularly messy situations in life. It is a nod to the painfully awkward silences that tend to happen more often than we would like to admit, those embarrassing past experiences that still make us want to crawl out of our skin and the sensitive, complex feelings we usually keep buried deep down within.

Q&A

What is the reason behind the relaunch?

Simply put, it was long overdue. From the moment I started this blog I knew that the day would eventually come where I had to say goodbye to Questions From A Teenager – because, well, nobody stays a teenager forever. On my 20th birthday I announced that I was planning on relaunching my blog name and design. It’s nearly a year later now and here we are! STICKY SITUATION feels more like me again. Its design is something I have been carefully planning and sketching out for a while now, so I feel excited to finally share it with all of you and to hear your thoughts.

Why the name Sticky Situation?

Out of everything that went into the blog relaunch, coming up with a new, fitting name definitely took the most time. I have been brainstorming new blog names for over two years now, jotting down every word and phrase that came to mind. What I came to realise is that a lot of the time, the inspiration behind my blog posts has been the sticky situations I found myself in – challenging times, tricky circumstances, awkward experiences, past relationships… A lot of these situations were ones that I wanted to overcome. Over time I found that I could do just that by writing about them and in return gaining clarity and perspective. My problems started to feel more manageable once I wrote them down – it gave me the confidence I needed to tackle them.

And with that in mind, STICKY SITUATION was born. It is the name I found myself coming back to the most, something about it just stuck with me (hah). Per definition, a sticky situation is a difficult, awkward or precarious situation – a tough situation to overcome. Regardless of age, I think that it is important to remember that no matter how great the challenge, we can a) overcome it and b) grow from it. Some of the hardest moments of my life have also been the most educational – and that is what STICKY SITUATION is all about. It is about embracing those moments instead of running from them.

How did the design come about?

My “design process” for the blog relaunch can be imagined as my brain vomiting a lot of ideas all at once and then having to tediously sort through all of them and stitch something together that works. I downloaded what felt like over a hundred different fonts, trying to find one that encapsulated everything I was trying to convey. I then created a basic colour palette that would lay the basis for the rest of the design. Then it was time to open Photoshop and get creative (my favourite part). I created a lot of graphics (like the one above) and experimented… a lot.

Please note that I am in no way done with the design – and I never will be. No blog is ever truly “finished” – a blog will always be something personal, something that grows alongside the person writing it. I am constantly changing and adding things as I go; There are a lot of unpublished features I am presently working on and I cannot wait to reveal them in the future!

To finish this post up, I would like to express how thankful I am to all of you. Thank you to my fellow bloggers and creatives, all of the amazing blogging friends I have made and all of the silent readers that keep coming back. So many of you have reached out to me over the years, sharing your own opinions, stories and experiences with me. It is because of your support that I consider this blog to be a second home – a place of comfort.

Together we have made this blog into what it is today and I am excited to continue what we do best: Sharing our stories with each other, inspiring one another and supporting each other through all of the sticky situations to come.

Love, Fiona x

  1. AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHH. (I could have just typed “intense scream”, but I don’t think that could characterise well enough what I’m feeling). Finally!!!! I am so excited for this new journey you’ve embarked upon, and I for one am so glad I get to be a tiny part of it as a viewer!

You could not have come up with a better name, and I cannot count the number of times my mind has randomly drifted to wondering what the new name of your blog could be. Absolutely love it! Congratulations, Fiona! And welcome back! Love, love, and yet more love for you.

    1. 🤗🤗🤗 Arshia, this made me smile so wide that my face now hurts. And tiny part? NO. MASSIVE part. I mean, look at that intense “AAAAAAAAHHHH” – you could never be a tiny part of this blog, even if you tried to. You’re the first blogger I met in person and that will always be a memory I will treasure – which means you are a big, BIG part of my blogging journey and moreover someone I respect and admire so much!

I’m thrilled that you are so fond of the new name!! It just….spoke to me (and by that I mean I couldn’t get it out of my damn head for over a year before I was like “oh, maybe this is IT”). Thank you so much, Arshia. Love, love and yet more love right back at you.

  9. You are so talented! I love how original your blog design is. And such a perfect name!

I don’t think a blog is ever complete either. It’s natural that as time goes on, you begin to adapt and change both your design and writing style. I remember when I first started my blog and I spent FOREVER going over colour schemes and fonts. Then a few months later, just changed them all.

I’m super looking forward to seeing where you take the Sticky Situation and what blogs you post. I’m the queen of awkward experiences so no doubt I’ll be mentally nodding along to your stories. Beautiful black and white photos. You’re glowing in them. xx

    1. So strange; for some reason your comment ended up in my spam, apologies for the late response!

Thank you Laura, that’s so sweet of you to say! You have such a beautiful blog design yourself, so coming from you that means a lot. Haha, I can still (kind of) remember one of your old designs from back when I (a newbie back then) had the pleasure of interviewing you a couple of years ago! It’s crazy how fast time flies sometimes.

And LOL I’m glad to hear that I’m not the only person with bunch of awkwardness up my sleeve 😂 Hope you’re doing well xx
