– crackling phone lines –
after an hour of hearing that one familiar voice
the specific pitch and rhythm to each of the words spoken
like a soothing song known since birth
something in her s h a t t e r e s
and the girl who valued her independence
above everything
suddenly values her roots more
for home is the place that birthed her dreams,
the ones she is setting out to live
Lovely poem. A really goid description of homesuckness. I understand about roots

You’ve expressed the conflict between wanting to start a life somewhere new and longing for the familiarity of home so well. Very well written.

i relate to this immensely. as someone who literally traveled all the way across the country to make a home in another state, i avoid phone calls at all costs, because it seems to do nothing but make my heart hurt. thank you for writing this in such a lovely way–you are amazingly talented xx

Phone calls have this way of making us emotional, don’t they?! What a strange thing. And thank you thank you thank you xx

I love this! I have never properly been away from home to be homesick but I can imagine it is quite a strong feeling when you are in a different country! xx

I actually have only really felt homesick once or twice since moving – both times were over the phone. I don’t wish it upon anyone, although one is bound to experience it in most cases. Thank you Hannah! xx
