W-Magazine Screen Tests Interviews

I have been loving these short black and white interviews with a variety of different actors lately. I like to watch interviews in general after a long day, it just kind of calms me down.

Actors on Actors by Variety

Yup – another interview series I like to binge. Actors on Actors is special to me because they pair two people of the trade and let them interview each other. The product is not as much an interview, but a conversation amongst collegues.

Series

The End Of The Fucking World

After one of my best friends found the trailer to the new Netflix hit series The End Of The Fucking World it was only a matter of time before I had watched the whole first season. And WOW. One thing British television does best is character development in a short span of time. I can’t wait for a second season!

Twin Peaks

screen-shot-2015-08-11-at-1-50-30-pm

David Lynch’s Twin Peaks kind of just fell into my lap after rebinging Sex And The City. The actor who playes Charlotte’s first husband, Trey, also is a huge part of Twin Peaks. I watched one episode and I was hooked. It’s murder, mystery and so, so much more.

The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel

The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel (which is a handful of a title I must say) is a hilarious comedy set in the 1950’s revolving around Midge (Mrs. Maisel), a housewife who decides to start doing stand-up when her husband leaves her. Apart from the colours, the costumes and the amazing filming, this is a truly well-written story about what it meant to be a woman back then.

Movies

Ladybird

I only have two words to offer: WATCH IT!

Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri

A movie that leaves you wondering whether you should laugh or cry. A tragic story filled to the brim with comic relief that shows how one event can set a whole lot of change into motion. Great story, perfect cast, pretty fucking amazing movie.

Molly’s Game

Based on a true story, Molly’s Game was one of those films that turned out to be an absolute gem. I went in with low expectations and walked out feeling deeply moved.

Books

Call Me By Your Name (Audio Book)

I listened to this whole audiobook in two days. As the film is currently being talked about a lot, I wanted to read the book before seeing it. But as the beginning of the year is always suuuuper hectic, I was struggling to find time to read anything. I listened to the audiobook whenever I could, inbetween classes, while working on projects, basically anywhere because I was so hooked. And let me just say, DAMN this book does have some pretty dirty scenes in it. But overall the writing is incredible, so descriptive and the characters are all so layered and complicated. I would recommend this to anyone who wants to see the movie, go and read/listen to the book first!

Podcasts

Don’t Blame Me (Meghan Rienks)

I’ve been getting into podcasts more and more recently and one I stumbled upon is “Don’t Blame Me” which is more like a comedy podcast than anything else. Meghan Rienks is hilarious! Listeners can leave her a voicemail explaining their problems and she will comment on them and suggest ways to solve them. Behind the humorous atmosphere she actually broaches some pretty serious everyday subjects.

The Basement Yard (Joe Santagato)

The Basement Yard is a podcast by YouTuber Joe Santagato and he basically just rambles on about random topics, but if you know him from his videos, you know he’s pretty damn hilarious (if that’s your kind of humour).

The Sunday Social (Lucy Moon)

Lucy Moon herself describes this series on her YouTube channel as a visual podcast. She interviews different content creators from all types of backgrounds and fields over brunch and tea. It is extremely interesting to hear about different industries (such as the music industry) and the stories of individuals in that area.

Random stuff

Blogs

Sea Foaming

Apart from interviewing Sea Foaming runner Abby Strangward for The Person Behind series (interview coming out in March!), I genuinely have become obsessed with this online youth culture magazine. The content they put out is just SO GOOD. Abby also has a YouTube channel which I have really come to enjoy.

Lucy Moon

Online content creator/YouTuber Lucy Moon also has a lifestyle blog here on WordPress on which she regularly posts content. I have been loving the consistent posts and the raw honest she puts into her writing.

Beautiful, Inspiring, Creative… Life

You might know her as crystalsandcurls or simply Mia. Mia’s blog has quickly become one of my favourites here on WordPress. From fashion to travel to posts on productivity – this blog will leave you wanting more.

Midnight Wanderer

Chloe’s blog has become somewhat of a staple when it comes to my reading habits. Every word and thought she puts into her blog are so beautiful and inspiring, so raw and honest. I also recently interviewed Chloe for The Person Behind, which was great fun.

MY WILD SPACE

Although I haven’t been following Isabél’s blog for too long, I have already fallen in love with her content and the aesthetics of her blog.

  1. Loooove this! I’ve been on the lookout for podcast recommendations actually (I want to start listening to them in the car on my way to work) so I’ll definitely be checking those out! Also I’ve had TEOTFW on my to watch list for a while now but I just KNOW I’m gonna fall in love with that guy and get myself into a pit of despair so I’ve been trying to put it off as long as I can hahaha, I know I’m going to absolutely love it though, it’s right up my street! Also thank you for mentioning my blog, I am so honoured!! You are an angel💘 thank you so much lovely xxx

    1. So happy you liked this Chlo! Listening to podcasts in the car is my favourite thing to do – you should definitely start! If you find any other interesting ones, definitely hit me up with some recommendations! And girl, you NEED to watch TEOTFW – you’re going to love it so much it hurts (at least I did). And you’re welcome, but I mean COME ON how could I not mention it? I’m hooked on your content – please never stop creating or I fear I won’t be the same ever again hahaha xxx

  2. I really want to watch Lady Bird. Actually, I want to go through everything you mentioned. It makes me feel as though I’ve been living under a rock, but now I can see the sea and what’s out there. Great blog recommendations too. 🙂 xx

  3. I loved the end of the fucking world so much. I literally couldn’t stop watching it was so good. And I really want to see Lady Bird!! Also. Three Billboards was so good. When it finished i literally just wanted to keep watching for another hour

    1. Yes I was so sad that there were only do few episodes but I think it would have lost its charm if they would have dragged it out over longer episodes. Also, GIRL WHAT ARE YOU WAITING FOR? Go watch Ladybird! You won’t be disappointed. And yes, TBOEM was something else (in a good way) – that ending though!

      1. I know exactly what you mean. As I was watching it I just thought sadly to myself that this’ll have to end eventually otherwise it’ll turn out bad. Also! I have made plans to see Ladybird with my friend this SUNDAY! I didn’t realise it was already out.

    1. I KNOW I KNOW I READ THAT SEASON TWO IS BEING DISCUSSED RIGHT NOW AND ALSO, IT WAS KIND OF AN OPEN ENDING SO ANYTHING IS POSSIBLE!

And dude, I get you. TEOFTW is such a stand-out gem! If you can’t already tell by my capitals, I really really REALLY love this show.

  6. I’ve only seen the first two episodes of TEOTFW. The series is really refreshingly funny lol. I recognized the male actor right away from the Black Mirror episode he was on. However, I spoiled myself with what happens to TEOTFW and I wish I hadn’t…

    1. Yes me too! I was shocked to see the actor again and for the first episode it was hard not putting all of my prejudice against his character on Black Mirror onto him. He did such a great job in both shows! I would still recommend you watch it to the end though, even if you know how it ends. I think instead of everything leading up to that moment it’s kind of more about the development throughout.

      1. LOL I remember watching the trailer for TEOTFW on YouTube and I saw tons of comments like, “Um, isn’t that the kid from Black Mirror?” or “They say you’ve been looking at kids, Kenny! KIDS!” (Those of you that watched the Black Mirror episode will get this reference.) I definitely want to continue watching, but I don’t want to binge it all in one day and just let myself absorb each episode slowly.

        1. OMG SAME! I was like “kids, Kenny!” – Such a brilliant episode. And yay, sounds like a good plan. For me, I just binged it all in one night and it was great, don’t get me wrong, but the slow approach seems like the better option here seeing as there are only so few episodes.

  7. Y E S!! First of all, I’m watching Twin Peaks right now! I didn’t think anyone else was (it’s from the 90s right? haha) but it is so interesting. I’m inspired to cut my hair like Donna’s.
Second, the 3 Billboards movie was SO GOOD. There was so much emotion and important topics. I loved it.

    1. I stumbled upon Twin Peaks per accident but now I’m hooked. So cool to meet a person who’s also watching it right now! And yes, it’s from the early 90’s. Did you know that they are bringing it back? It might actually already be out, I’m not exactly sure. And aaahhhh TBOEM was just amazing, I completely agree with you. Thanks for stopping by! 🙂
